Shh

trio, 2011, with Chris Heenan and Matija Schellander

Shh is a trio of electronics, contrabass, and contrabass clarinet. The musicians of SHH have each developed a specific musical language on their instruments and use these developments to merge their respective sounds in the service of a quiet and focused group music.

Chris Heenan, contrabass clarinet

Olaf Hochherz, electronics

Matija Schellander, contrabass

Chris Heenan lives in Berlin and is an active composer/performer and organizer of experimental music. He performs on alto saxophone, contrabass clarinet, and analog synthesizer. Heenan has developed a formidable solo voice on his wind instruments, particularly with the contrabass clarinet where he uses extended techniques, often incorporating multiphonics with surprising results, to reveal the subtleties inherent to the instrument.

Matija Schellander is an Austrian composer and improvising musician currently based in Vienna, mostly using double bass, modular synthesizer, and speakers: processing input, moving air output.
