ten feelers

performance/installation, 2012, speakers, motors, cables and aluminium foil

The performance consists of the construction of the installation. The installation is based on simple and fragile electronic circuits. A cable is tight along the ceiling and aluminium foil is unreeled on the floor. They are connected to the two poles of a power supply. Speakers are attached to cables hanging from the ceiling, or placed on the aluminium foil. Cable attached to the speakers and motors allow contacts with the electrical circuit. this results in movements which interrupts the contacts so that sounds appear: crack, rustle and buzz. Continuously the structure is changed, contacts are lost, things tangled, speakers fall to the ground or burn out. Continuously the installation has to be fixed to remain functional. The question behind ten feelers is how simple can a electronic circuit be but still appear as alive.
